Conversations Series II, led by Venture Arts and in partnership with Castlefield Gallery and the Whitworth, is a collaborative residency that bringing together three learning-disabled artists who are part of the Venture Arts supported studios, to work alongside the three visual artists.
This iteration of the series delves into feelings and thoughts of how artists feel about the labels placed upon them by society and the art world more broadly. The participating artists spent time with The Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection at the Whitworth, researching collection pieces, this process stimulating conversation on how artists are labelled, and how this can sometimes define their work and themselves as ‘different’.

‘Other Transmissions’ is a touring project and exhibition resulting from Conversations Series II residency that explores stereotypes,
and art world definitions.
‘Other Transmissions’ tour: Tate Liverpool - Tate Exchange event, Artlink Hull, Paradise Works and The University of Salford.
The next phase of the touring project will take place at the Whitworth in February 2020. More details to come.
